Which PDFs convert best to Excel

PDFConvertFast reads the text that is already inside your PDF and rebuilds the rows and columns in a spreadsheet. That works very well for digital PDFs: bank statements downloaded from online banking, invoices created with accounting software, price lists, reports and exports from ERP or CRM systems.

A quick test: open your PDF and try to select a word with your mouse. If you can select it, the PDF is digital and will convert well. If you can't, it is a scanned image and needs OCR (text recognition), which is coming soon.

Tips for a clean spreadsheet

  • Choose “One sheet per page” for reports, or “All pages in one sheet” for long tables that continue across pages.
  • Numbers like 1,234.50 become real numbers, so you can use SUM, sort and filter right away.
  • IDs with leading zeros (for example 00123) stay as text and are not changed.
  • Headers that span several columns may need a quick manual tidy-up after converting.

Scanned PDFs, receipts, invoices and bank statements

Digital invoices, receipts and bank statements convert well today. Scanned documents and photos need OCR – OCR and AI extraction are coming soon. Find out what works for your document:

PDF to Excel – frequently asked questions

Is this PDF to Excel converter free?

Yes. PDFConvertFast is completely free to use. There is no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many PDFs you convert.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

It works best with digital PDFs that contain selectable text or tables, for example invoices, bank statements or reports exported from software. Scanned PDFs are images of text and need OCR (text recognition) first, so they usually produce an empty spreadsheet.

Can I download XLSX?

Yes. The result is a standard .xlsx file that opens in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice and Apple Numbers. Numbers are saved as real numbers, so you can calculate with them right away.

How are the pages of my PDF organised in Excel?

By default every PDF page becomes its own sheet. You can also choose “All pages in one sheet” to get one continuous table.

Are my files stored?

No. PDFConvertFast converts your file directly in your browser, so it is never uploaded to our servers. Your files stay on your device and are not stored permanently.
