Profit and Loss Statement From PDF to Excel
A profit and loss statement – also called income statement or P&L – shows revenue, costs and result for a period. Your accountant or accounting software usually delivers it as PDF; to analyse margins, compare months or build a budget, you need it in Excel.
The converter turns the lines of a digital P&L into rows with the amounts in columns. Scanned statements are not supported, because the tool has no OCR.

Analysing the P&L in Excel
- Expenses shown in brackets, e.g. (12,400), stay text – replace the brackets with a minus sign to calculate.
- Add a column “% of revenue” with =amount/revenue to compare cost structures.
- Monthly P&Ls from accounting software: convert each month and put them side by side for a trend.
- Account numbers in front of the line names stay part of the text or get their own column, depending on the layout.

Profit and loss to Excel – questions and answers
What is the difference between a P&L and a balance sheet?
The P&L shows revenue and costs for a period; the balance sheet shows assets and liabilities on a specific date.
Why are cost lines text instead of numbers?
Amounts in brackets or with a currency sign stay text. Replace the brackets with a minus sign and remove symbols.
Can I convert a scanned P&L?
No. Scans are images and OCR is not supported. Ask your accountant for the PDF export.
Is my P&L uploaded?
No. It is converted in your browser and your figures stay on your device.
