Where GIF files still turn up
Many older scanners, fax programs and archive systems saved documents as GIF, and charts or diagrams from older websites are often GIFs too. A PDF is the better format to send, print or file them: it opens everywhere and keeps all pages together in one document.
How the PDF is built
Need JPG or PNG photos in the same PDF? Convert those with JPG to PDF, then put both PDFs together with Combine PDF.
- Each GIF becomes one page, in the order of the list.
- Images are centred on A4 or US Letter pages with a small margin and are never stretched.
- Colours are kept exactly; no extra compression is applied.
- Animated GIFs are placed as a still image of their first frame – a PDF can't play animations.
About GIF and PDF files
- GIF
- GIF is an old image format for simple graphics and short animations. It supports only 256 colours per image.
- PDF (Portable Document Format)
- PDF files look the same on every device and are the standard for invoices, statements, contracts and reports. Digital PDFs store real text; scanned PDFs store images of pages. All PDF tools →

GIF to PDF – frequently asked questions
Can I combine several GIFs into one PDF?
Yes. Add all GIFs, sort them with the arrows and click “Convert to PDF”. Each GIF becomes one page.
What happens to animated GIFs?
The first frame is placed in the PDF as a still image, because PDFs can't show animations.
Does the image quality change?
No. The GIF is stored losslessly in the PDF and scaled to fit the page without stretching.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The PDF is created in your browser and your GIFs stay on your device.
