A readable PDF from plain text
Text files have no layout: opened on another device, they appear in a random font, lines run off the screen and printing cuts them at odd places. The converter places the text on proper pages with margins, wraps long lines at the page edge and starts a new page when one is full. Empty lines are kept, so paragraphs stay apart.
Languages and characters
Formatting such as bold text or Markdown headings is not interpreted – the PDF shows the text exactly as it is in the file. Scripts like Chinese, Japanese or Hebrew are not included in the fonts yet.
- Latin letters with accents and umlauts, Greek and Cyrillic use the Noto Sans font.
- Arabic lines use Noto Sans Arabic and are aligned to the right.
- UTF-8 files and older Windows (ANSI) text files are both recognised.
- Tabs become spaces; the text in the PDF stays selectable and searchable.
About Plain and PDF files
- Plain text (TXT)
- A TXT file contains only characters – no fonts, colours or layout. It opens in every editor, can be searched and copied easily, and is ideal for further processing.
- PDF (Portable Document Format)
- PDF files look the same on every device and are the standard for invoices, statements, contracts and reports. Digital PDFs store real text; scanned PDFs store images of pages. All PDF tools →
