Compress a PDF to Under 200 KB

A copy of your ID card, a certificate or a signed one-page form – many online forms ask for exactly that, but limit the file to 200 KB. This page starts with the strongest compression level, which is what such small limits need.

Please note: the tool cannot target a size. It optimizes the images as far as the “Strong” level goes, and the result depends on what is in your PDF.

Works best with PDFs that contain photos or scanned pages. PDFs with only text are often already small.

Measured results

A single scanned page or a page with one or two photos has a good chance. Two or more full scanned pages usually end up above 200 KB.

  • One scanned A4 page at 300 dpi: about 190 KB with “Strong” – just under the limit.
  • Four camera photos on four pages: 3.8 MB → 205 KB with “Strong” – just above.
  • Two pages with large photos: 11.0 MB → 120 KB with “Strong”.

Tips for ID copies and certificates

  • Put front and back of an ID card on one page instead of two.
  • Crop scans to the document itself – white borders also cost space.
  • If the portal allows it, upload front and back as two separate files.

Compress PDF to 200 KB – questions and answers

Will my PDF definitely be under 200 KB?

Not always. In our tests one scanned page stayed just under 200 KB, but documents with several scanned pages or photos were larger.

Can I still read the scanned text after compression?

Yes, for normal print sizes. Very small print in scans gets softer with “Strong”; check the result before uploading.

What if my scan has several pages?

Extract only the pages the form needs, or split the PDF and upload the pages separately if allowed.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. ID copies and certificates are compressed in your browser and stay on your device.
